We had begun to feel quite at home in Gijon (He – Hon), it
was such an easy place to be although the partying every night was quite full
on. I am not sure we ever got to see all sides of the town, despite walking
miles, doing a huge Carrefour shop, getting our picture framed (interesting in
our Spanish), going to the market. We met some lovely people on the centre dock
and really relaxed.
Our last night we went out to the back streets with Lee
& Andrew from sv Katherine and had a really local experience with families
in a lovely square. We drank Sidra poured a little more calmly, ate Pulpo and
tapas before progressing to another restaurant for a selection of local tuna
and huge deserts – before collapsing back to the boats for an early start next
day.

We couldn’t stay another day as another Fiesta was about to
start to we set sail 8am on Sat morning into a grey day for more motor sailing.
We had some wind but just not enough, so with a little engine we could increase
the apparent wind and make a comfortable trip despite quite a big swell.
Katherine left just after us and I think sailed a bit more than us as it took
them a few hours to overtake us – they are 65 feet long! We managed to get the
Assy up for a couple of hours and the sun came out just before we arrived in
Ribadeo.
Being overtaken! |
